In Nadav's article on using Xapian with TG, he sets up the xapian system as a separate process and uses rpc for communication. He makes a reasonable argument about that allowing a separate machine to do that workload.
Investigate the idea of incorporating this into TurboLucene. It should not replace the current integrated version is I believe this is simpler and sufficient in most cases.
